Battle Scraps announces a new single person competition, SOLO BATTLE for those who don't have or don't want a partner.  Details for this show can be found in the drop down menu of the "bs application" page in the main menu above or by clicking here.

Applications for both the SOLO BATTLE and Buffet Battle Challenge are being accepted right now. These two shows are open to anyone from any state as long as they meet the requirements listed on this website.  You can get more information about Battle Scraps BBC by clicking here.  BBC applications must be in by May 1, 2012 so hurry if you're interested in the food plot evaluated specific competition.

Battle Scraps is currently in the process of expanding from a one state, one show program to a multi-state 6 show series for Season 3.  We're looking to have 5 different state competition shows and we'll have 1 series special competition about food plots.  As stated before, we're researching which states really have the desire to have a show by the feedback and response we get from its residents.  We're doing this by asking people to fill out a pre-application questionnaire that you can find here.

States we're currently looking into are Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Maryland, Iowa, and Illinois. But nothing will be set until April 1st.  Then hopeful competitors in the 5 chosen states can start the official show application process with a deadline for all applications of July 1st 2012.  Teams for each show will then be determined by July 14th and required to have their contracts signed and in by August 1st 2012.

NEW FOR SEASON 3

State Show Series

The regular Battle Scraps series will again follow two person teams from the chosen states as they take us through their 2012 hunting season which can include other game besides deer.  If you hunt it, why not film it.  However the following will be some of the new requirements the teams will need to adhere to:

- Teams must hunt with partner or another camera person AT LEAST 95% of the time.  (Most single person footage will not be allowed)

- Teams will be required to have specific filming gear, including an approved HD camera.  If your starting from scratch, you can pick up all the needed (minimum) gear including camera for right about $500, its absolutely crazy how reasonable it costs to get starting filming hunts these days.  The list of the gear will be posted later.

- Teams will need to have a sponsor (team name) as part of the application process. However, we will reserve one spot on each show for a team who has not yet found a sponsor so EVERYONE who applies has a chance to make the show.  We will also provide a Team Sponsor Media Kit download so that you can start talking to local businesses about the $500 entry fee/sponsor before you apply if this is something that concerns you.  We feel this is a great medium for us as a series to support local economies via "Main Street" businesses and for these local businesses to support their community members & customers who appear on the show.  

- Teams will have a strict footage submission schedule to follow.  Footage will be sent in Bi-Weekly, no matter if you are "going to hunt tomorrow" since you'll have extra SD cards anyway, and teams will be required to fill out a "Footage Detail"  form each time they send it in. Details of what exactly will be required on the form will be posted later.

- Along with the regular footage of hunting, teams will have specific segments to film like interviews or sponsor promos.  There will be specific deadlines that they need to be completed by.  This is not only a requirement for Battle Scraps but should be looked at as a responsibility to your sponsor who decided to support you.

Buffet Battle Challenge Series

The Battle Scraps BBC series, which will focus on showcasing teams who use and manage food plots as a major part of their hunting strategy, will have the same requirements as listed above for the regular state shows, but will include the following additional requirements:

- Teams must have the  ability (or access) to plant & hunt your own food plots.  So you either have to own, lease, or just have permission to plant food plots where you hunt.

- We are looking for Teams based on three levels of investment that people spend on food plots each year.  We don't just want to show you the big spenders like you see on a lot of TV shows, we want to show you real world applications that really anyone can afford.  So we'll be looking for teams in three categories: 0-$300 spent on food plots, $300-$1000 spent on food plots, and $1000 on up spent on food plots. This includes lime, fertilizer, equipment rental, and any other typical fees associated with food plots.  "Buying a tractor" does not count as a typical yearly expense. That means if you usually plant one 1/4 acre food plot a year to hunt, you have as much chance to make the show as someone who plants 5 acres in food plots.

- Teams will be required to use only White River Ag Products seed blends in their food plots. If you are one of the teams chosen, you will receive a $50 dollar coupon towards your purchases as it pertains to your level, meaning if you usually spend $200 dollars, the $50 counts as part of that amount.

- The teams will be required to film more than viagra suisse sans ordonnance just hunting, so since BBC is food plot centered, teams will have to film their entire planning, planting, and maintenance process.  Teams will also be asked to share their personal tips on what they have found over the years that helps make their food plots successful. (also note, you can also be planting food plots for the very first time but sharing what you are trying to do)  While this show will be centered around best practices as suggested by White River Ag Products we want to showcase real world experience and examples from average everyday hunters.

The Icing On The Cake

There will be a nice little prize package for the winners of each show but the teams will be fighting for the chance to stay alive and compete the following season on what will become the "Top Scraps" show and the new season of BBC.  To break it down, the 5 winners of the state shows would become the roster for the "Top Scraps" show and the winner of BBC would be guaranteed a spot on Season 2.  Now the icing on the cake is, if things go as planned, both of these top shows will be TV productions. So from Season 3 on, every team that makes a state competition show, will be fighting for the ultimate chance to compete on TV.  

But we need your help.  If you are even remotely excited about where this is headed and how you might be able to be a part of it, then you need to help us spread the word.  Tell your friends about us, post about it on facebook, or even start a discussion on your favorite hunting forum but we appreciate any and all support.

Together, we can build a strong community that allows average everyday hunters like you, who've always dreamed of filming their hunt for everyone to see, to actually and logically realize those dreams.

The more questionnaires filled out by people in your state, the more likely your state will be one of the 5 chosen for Season 3.

Welcome back fans, its been almost 1 year and Season 2 of Battle Scraps is about to begin.  Same great competition with new faces and some familiar ones too, like season 1 champs Larry Boggess and Boudy Vier.  This years competition will feature 4 teams from Wisconsin and you can check them out on the teams page.

Its been a whirlwind year from a producers stand point lining up teams, coordinating team media, talking to sponsors, and laying the groundwork for season 2.  What is really exciting is, while Battle Scraps Season 2 has yet to begin, we've put things in place that allow us to announce that next year Battle Scraps will be expanding into 5 state specific competition shows.  

We plan the following state shows of Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois for Season 3, but want to hear from you, the fans and potential competitors, on which states you'd like to see. Don't worry if you don't live in one of those states, it can always change, and eventually we'd like to expand to include the whole country in some fashion. Without getting into details, these state shows will compete to crown a state winner.  The winners will then compete against the other state winners the following season to crown ultimate TOP SCRAPS in a show TBD with bigger prizes and bigger pride which may be produced for Television.

Battle Scraps

Okay, first and foremost, sorry for not getting up these details like 3 days ago.  Between two videos shot for this, audio issues, and a GIANT headache trying to switch servers for our websites, it's been a crazy week.  But now it's time for business on…

So alas, instead of making you wait for the video, you deserve the details so we can get Season 2 of Battle Scraps in motion.

Selection Process UPDATE 8/7/11:  Depending on the number of applications that come in, we're actually guaranteeing the FIRST 6-10 spots on our show(s) to the first 6 – 10 applicants, and then there will be a selection process for the remaining spots so everyone who applies has a chance.  But this means it doesn't matter how good you are or if you never filmed a hunt before, the bottom line is if you are 1 of the first 6 rookie applications (possibly up to the first 10) you ARE ON OUR SHOW.  But you do have to understand and agree to our application guidelines below.  Basically applying means you understand them.  (FYI – 2 of those spots are already taken)

Here they are:

1 – Battle Scraps is NOT limited to Wisconsin residents.  If you live in the US, or heck, even Canada, and you want to be on Battle Scraps you can apply as long as you keep in mind all the application "requirements".

2 – We will do one show for sure, and a second one this year if the stars align right.  That said, the first show would be a graduate show that included teams from BS season 1, BOTB season 1 and 2, any former Dream Season team, and really any team that was on a hunting show before but can no longer be on it again.  Essential this is a show of the True Battle Scraps.  If you know teams or individuals who fit this description we'd love it if you encouraged them to apply (of course only if they love doing this like we do). Thanks!

The second show would then be our Rookie class show of teams who've never made it to a show but would like to trying filming their hunts and have some fun.  So, if that's you or someone you know, spread the word.  Thanks!

3 – If your team is selected to be on either show(first 6 rookie apps are "selected" automatically), there will be a $500 entry fee.  This covers show costs/production cots, etc.  We do encourage you to seek sponsorship for this fee in which they then become your team name with exposure on every show, on the website, and other avenues.  But it's a great way for a local businesses to support a local team while not breaking the bank account on advertising.  Bottom line is, we will do everything to help you secure your sponsorship with detailed stats, promotions, and even talking with them ourselves.  If you're applying, feel free to start putting out the word that you're looking for support.  

UPDATE 8/7/11: Just wanted to be clear on this as we got a few questions.  If you are worried about the $500 entry fee or finding a sponsor for it, don't let that stop you from applying because it's not a major deciding factor as we are working to have sponsorship in place for a team who may need it.  We still encourage you to get your own (again we will help with if they need more details) so you can promote your area and your community members, basically your hometown pride.  That's why we're looking for teams across America. With that said though, keep in mind that to be one of the "guaranteed first 6-10 applications" you agree to pay the fee even if you don't have or find a sponsor.

UPDATE 8/12/11:  If your team ends up requiring one of our sponsors for your team sponsorship and entry fee, in an effort to be far for all the work we the producers and production does lining up show partners, your team will have a minimal fee of $65 per person to be on the show.  Again if you find your own sponsor, which we can help with by talking to them for you once you find interested parties, 100% of your entry fees will be covered.  

4 – On Battle Scraps you will be required to have your own camera equipment.  We also are 95% sure we will also require HD but the nice thing about our online platform is we can work with many different cameras including the base consumer HD cameras.  If you're looking to get one, we like and prefer basically any HD Canon model ($250-300 + at Besy Buy or online), but we can work with others. Obviously the more you spend the more features you get but they all take great quality video and have a mic jack should you ever need it. We'll have details on cameras in the coming weeks but feel free to ask any questions before then. 

UPDATE 8/7/11: As for cameras we may or may not require HD this season but we encourage you to apply regardless of the kind of camera you have.  The main reason we'd WANT HD footage is as we move into television in the future and re-use some of our best footage (meaning you could be on tv in the future just for being online now) we won't be able to use none HD footage as most channels are requiring it now.

5 – Lastly, if you're okay with what you've read so far, all you need to do is apply to be on Battle Scraps.  Again the first 6 and maybe even first 10 applications get to be on the show(s) as long as you agree with the details above.  And by the way, even if you're a little concerned about one thing or another, apply anyway and let's discuss what you're thinking.  So apply in the following manner:

How to Apply for Season 2 of Battle Scraps

1 – Go to the "Contact Page" in the main menu above (far right in main menu).

2 – Fill in the contact form with your name, e-mail, and "BS show application" in the subject box.

3 – Then in the message box answer/discuss the following questions/instructions.

Please answer the following

1 – List your name and your partners name, best e-mail for each of you, best phone # for each of you, and what state you are from.

2 – List what show you are applying for (graduate or rookie class).

3 – Tell us a little bit about yourselves and about your enjoyment of hunting (I assume you enjoy it).

4 – Tell us about your experience hunting together, if you have, how long, what camera do you have if you do, etc.

5 – Lastly, tell us why you wanna be on Battle Scraps, then click "Send".

So there you have it, a few instructions, little writing, and one mouse click and you've applied to be on Battle Scraps.  By the way it's certainly not asked for but if you have any videos (youtube, etc.), links/photos (Facebook), that you'd like us to check out feel free to include them in your app as well.

Her Name Would Become Ginger

The little orange striped mother and her 5 kittens were left to fend for themselves at the end of our road one evening in the fall of 1997.  Luckily they we're still mingling on the road when my mother, sister, and myself turned onto it that evening.  We were able to scoop up the kittens easily but the girl who would become Ginger was much to skiddish to come to us right away.  We actually came home and dropped off the kittens giving them food and water before returning to the end of the road with some snacks to try a coax the scared mother.  To this day my sister and I still argue about who actually rescued Ginger from that ditch.  I'd always thought it was me but as memories filter back into my head, my sister may in fact be right.  Hopefully she doesn't read this.  She probably will.

In the end it matters not which one of us picked her up, since I most definitely saved the kittens, but what counts is we were able to give another chance at life to a mother and her kittens.  We weren't able to keep all the kittens but found homes for them.  And Ginger, well she had a wonderful long life instead viagra samples of one of abandonment.  In fact I'm quite amazed at the time she was with our family.  Living in the middle of the woods is Northern Wisconsin, many cats came and went before and after she arrived and became family, but Ginger never disappeared, always perched atop her sunny tie wall or snuggled into her rediculessly plain cardboard box top, a favorite in recent years.  She was smart, a survivor, she avoided predators and seemed to just have no desired to wander too far and was always there when you went to find her.

An outdoor cat most of her life, she still spent plenty of time indoors as growing up my sister would sneak her inside all the time. The last couple years however she became an indoor cat during the winters while still insisting to be outside during the warmer summer days.  A real bond between her and I was forged those last few years as I moved home to be with my mother after my father passed away.  Ginger, like a puppy but without being pushy, was always there to great you and rub against your legs.  I'll always picture her snuggled up on "her" stool by the wood stove soaking up all the heat her old bones would allow.

She loved just being by people, leaving her wood stove perch many times to jump on my lap as I watched TV or hanging with the dogs on the day bed in the office if I was in there working, or following me to bed so she could rub herself all over my face as I tried to sleep.  Funny thing is I'm quasi allergic to cats if I play too much with them, but with Ginger is wasn't that bad, almost like I developed an immunity, or a super power.  I'll never know.

Ginger was unlike any cat I've ever known, smart, funny, resilient, and loving right to the end.  I've never experienced a connection like that with any cat before, but she was always in sight and never out of mind and that builds a strong bond.  I'm glad I was able to be there when she was ready to say goodbye, so I too could say goodbye, but it still hurt.

She had a wonderful life in the end, but many cats and other pets don't get a second chance like Ginger did.  Abandoned, neglected, beaten, many animals still desperately need our help and second chance.  That's why I personally along with Battle Scraps would like to make a difference in some animals lives.  Give them a chance to have food, water, shelter, and find a good home.

We are looking to raise a minimum of $100 to donate to our local shelter here is Washburn, Wi called Helping Paws Pet Rescue.  100% of all donations received from January 22-29 (update from 1-22 to 2-6) will go directly to the shelter and you can rest easy knowing exactly where and how your gift is being used to help some animals who greatly need and deserve it.  But we'd like to do even more.  Eventually we'd like to reach out to other groups that support animal rescue in Wisconsin, groups that might help animals in your area.  So please leave your comments below with any suggestions or contact us through our contact form about any groups that might fit our goals.

 

After the dates mentioned above we still will be taking donations for pet rescue and adoption but a small portion will come out for our continued efforts in actively supporting and connecting with animal shelters/organizations around the state.  Below we have a donation button setup securely for you to donate any amount you can.  Once we tally up all the donations in our account at the end of the week we'll write out a check to Helping Paws Pet Rescue and present it to them.  Everyone who donates in this first week will get a special mention in a follow-up article on how we did in reaching our goals and future plans in helping rescued pets.
